Jewellery- Organized!

Last month, I re-discovered this box filled with my jewellery from three years ago. I thought it was all lost, so what a wonderful surprise to find it all again!

Mostly necklaces, this would be tough to keep clean.

I put most of the fully beaded necklaces in this basket.

My nicer necklaces I put into these book boxes.

Smaller, daintier necklaces found themselves in this smaller box.

And bigger "statement" necklaces live in this bigger box, along with a tiny earring box in the bottom right of the above photo.

Bracelets and pins and perfume ended up in this plastic drawer organizer, along with some big beaded necklaces that I don't wear so often.

Nail polish lives in another one of those drawers, just in case you were wondering?

I have another jewellery organizer to the left in this photo. It has most of my earrings, and dainty chained necklaces that I almost never wear, but have had for a long portion of my life.

And that's it!

Practice Station/Router and Modem place/Mirror Stand/Table

This is a fun little thing that I thought was pretty creative.

So between my desk (left) and my bookshelf (right), there was a gigantic mess of wires and modem/router stuff. This is where I wanted to put my mirror and my music stand, so something needed to be done!

That little shelf is actually a drawer from an old desk. That panel on the left is the front of the drawer, the top is one of the sides, the left is the back, and the back is the bottom. The other side of the drawer had broken off (and I used it somewhere else, you'll see in another post!) So it made the perfect little shelf for my things!

I had to saw out this little hole to run the cables through. I did this with a power drill and a small hand saw.

I didn't have any sandpaper, so the edges are a little rough, but see how it works?

There's plenty of room for my flute stand to go under there as well!

I decorated the top with old scrapbook paper that I've had for years and years. Not as colourful as I might have liked, but it has planes and I like planes!

It's so inconspicuous in this room, but super useful. I keep a box of tissues on there, plus it's a perfect place to keep a glass of water and my metronome. I also dump my purse on there as well.
Next step, clean that mirror! Wow it's so dusty!

My First Blanket

It's finished! Holy smokes, it's done. I started making this granny-square blanket back in December 2010. The reason it took so long to make wasn't because it was difficult, but because of time. I would work on the project in bursts, and then it would sit in a bag on my shelf for months and months. I finally finished it all up in February and March (thanks to Doctor Who and my need for crafting while watching TV!)

Here it lies on one of our Ikea chairs.

Isn't it so wonky? I like it!

All folded up! It's still quite small, but that's OK because it's DONE!

Rainbow Cushion

Although it is now technically Spring, the weather here is winter. It's cold, windy, and very snowy. Over the weekend, I wanted to do an activity that would make me feel warm and energetic. This crochet cushion came together really fast! I used multi-coloured yarn, so I never had to change colours or tuck in ends, which takes up a lot of time. I suggest everyone try to make this, because it happens so fast and is so satisfying! I used this circle guide, since I'd never crocheted a circle before.

The beginning. Isn't it so cute?

Two full circles! Not as cute, but still fun.

I whip-stitched the circles right-sides together, and this is what it looked like after I turned it inside (right side) out.

I just used the rainbow yarn to stitch it up, but sometimes it got a bit clashy!

My empty shell of a cushion, ready for stuffing.

Clashy yarn!

Et VoilĂ !

I hope this little cushion brought some joy into your day!

Honest Ed's

(this is an old photo, but I'm using it now because I forgot to take a picture of the outside today!)

"Come in and get lost!"

I got lost several times.

Which staircase is this? 1/100000?

Hey look, penguins!

Dental office?

I bought some things... for a surprise blog post coming up!

I was so happy to see this alley way. I had no idea I had accidentally crossed to the other store. I must have gone underground.

Aw this turned out all blurry! I guess that's what can happen in terrible fluorescent lighting.

Hey I recognize that face... It's me!

March Break "To Do" List

I have this entire week off from teaching! With not much else going on as well, I have a lot of spare time. I just moved two weeks ago, and with that, spent too much money. With a very small budget, and a whole week's worth of time, these are things I came up with to help me stay "active" (physically, mentally, and creatively?).

  • Hem remaining curtains
  • Alther clothing: shoulders on three dresses, hem blue dress, stitch holes in stockings, reattach button on coat
  • Hang mirror in bedroom
  • Organize dresser top
  • Get rid of extra stuff (on craigslist or curb or donate)
  • Wallpaper/wrapping paper for wooden shelf in the kitchen
  • Hang pictures and art
  • Fix bike! Get a tune-up
  • Install last shelf
  • Take photos of organized spaces
  • Make blog posts!
  • Honest Ed's Challenge???
  • Visit friends
  • Schedule a doctor check-up
  • Learn a new piece from the standard repertoire
  • Go home for a visit
  • Bring sewing machine to get fixed
  • Paint something new
  • Organize end of year student recital
  • Make up practice schedules for students taking exams
  • Take a lesson
  • Go to a fabric store
  • Cover chairs with new fabric
  • Finish crochet blanket
  • Go to concerts
  • Go to classical socials
  • Watch TV shows!
  • Sign up for free yoga month
  • Goo gone the old candle jars and cups
  • Paint folders for sheet music
Those are all the fun things I can do this week! Here are the less-fun things I have to do today:
  • Grocery shopping
  • Dishes
  • Clean the bathroom
  • Vacuum everywhere
  • Find a way to get rid of ants
Happy March Break!

Doodle

Magical Day Dream made a cute post about silly things to draw, and I was instantly inspired to take five minutes out of my day to do exactly that. I present to you:
